Smut disease screening in series 5,6 sugarcane seedlings

Field Crop Research Institute and Plant Pathology and Microbiology Division co-operated on screening for smut resistance. Nineteen potential hybrids were tested at Suphan Buri Sugar Mill and Suphan Buri Field Crop Research Center under both natural infection and inoculated situation. Seedlings number 6-1-064 is resistant in plant cane but moderately resistant in first ratoon. Number 6-1-058, 6-1-066, 6-1-080, 6-1-148, 6-3-144 and 6-3-121 are moderately resistant in both plant cane and first ratoon. The rest was susceptible.
