Extraction of 2 chemical compound groups, anthocyanins and flavonoids, from 5 new cotton lines - SC50, SC70, SC71, SC112 and SC163 - which was proved to be antibiotic resistance to the american bollworm, Heliothis armigera, under laboratory and greenhouse conditions (unpublished data) compared to those from SR2, (the control) the presently commercial variety. One anthocyanin and 8 flavonoids (unidentified) were found in both new lines and the control. There was no difference in the quantity of the anthocyanin to be considered as important to the resistance while flavonoid A seemed to contribute to part of resistance, since its concentration in all new lines was higher than SR2. However, many more chemical substances needed to be extracted and identified for further study.
