Effect of sodium chloride on growth of jackfruit seedlings
1991
Tipapan Siriwechadaruk
Effect of NaCl (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mM) on growth of 6 months old jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lamk.) seedling was conducted. Leaf burn, a symptom of salt injury, was found in all NaCl treated seedlings. The symptom started from leaf margins and spread toward the midrib. Ultimately, leaf shedding took place. NaCl concentration of 200 mM. and higher resulted in this injury within 1 week after application. Slightly leaf burn was found in the 100 mM. treated seedlings after 6 weeks. Increasing, in order, in height accumulation, stem and root dry weights, was observed in contrast with the increase of NaCl concentrations.
