In the course of our study of biologically active subtances from Thai medicinal plants, Piper ribesoides Wall. (Piperaceae) wich is used as an antiflatulent in Thai folk medicine has been investigated for its chemical constituents. The isolation of 2-isobornyl-4-hydroxycinnamate represented the first isolation of such compound from plants. Its structure was proven by both spectral data and X-ray crystallography. Several compounds were also obtained such as methyl piperate, methyl piperettate and two nitrogeneous compounds, N-isobutyl-13- (3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl) -trideca-2,4,12-trienamide) and futoamide. Their structures were deduced by the use of spectral data.
