Effect of 'Khaek Dam' papaya extracts on germination and growth of some plant species
1988
Rewatt Jantawinuragz
Extracts from mature "Khaek Dam" papaya (Carica papaya L.) seeds and roots at 5 months old plants were applied to seeds and seedlings of some plant species. The extract from papaya seeds were found to promote germination of Pennisetum polystachyon (L.) Schult seeds. The extract from roots promoted cucumber seed germination but inhibited germination of Abutilon hirtum Sweet seeds. The extract from seeds promoted the growth of A. hirtum and Brachiaria reptans (L.) Gard. et Hubb. but inhibited the growth of Bidens pilosa L. var. minor (Bl.) Sherff., Phaseolus lathyroides L. and Trianthema portulacastrum L. while the extract from root promoted the growth of Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv. but inhibited the growth of Mimosa pigra, P. polystachyon, and Leptochloa chinensis.
