Effect of fish meal type, fish meal levels and santoquin treatment on performance and liver of broiler chickens
1991
Lawan Lertkarnvichai
Part 1 revealed that chicks on the high-fat fish meal had higher feed consumption than those on regular fat fish meal but body weight gain, feed conversion and mortality rate were not significantly different. Chicks fed antioxidant-treated fish meal had higher feed consumption at 1st week as well as lower feed conversion and mortality rate at 5th week than those on antioxidant-untreated fish meal but no significant difference on weekly body weight gain. Part 2 of this present study revealed that TBA numbers of the 4 types of fish meal were 5.75-105.80 and the TBA numbers of the starter and finishing diets were 1.53-22.67. This range of TBA number had no effect on the feed consumption of the chickens. Factors affecting the rancidity of fish meal and diets were the amount of fat in the fish meal, antioxidant-untreated fish meal and length of storage.
