Growth stage descriptions were developed for mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) based on the results obtained and visual observation of mungbean grown in three successive seasons from July 1987 to November 1988. Growth stages of mungbean composed mainly as vegetative (V) and reproductive (R) stages. The V stage was determined by counting the number of developed nodes on the main stem, beginning with the cotyledonary node as zero. The last node counted must have its trifoliolate leaf sufficiently expanded so that leaflets are unfolded and flat in appearance. The R-stages proposed are R1 (beginning bloom), R2 (beginning pod), R3 (Beginning seed), R4 (full seed), R5 (beginning maturity), R6 (1st harvest) and R7 (2nd harvest). The V and R stages can be measured separately and concurrently and apply to population or single plant.
