Study of species composition of marine algae at Ao Phe, Rayong Province, presently and previously found

Species composition of the benthic marine algae at Ao Phe, Rayong Province was investigated by monthly collection for 12 months from April 1991 to March 1992. Specimens deposited at the Kasetsart University Museum of Fisheries which were collected in 1967 to 1987. Forty five genera, and 67 species were found growing on rocks, gravels, dead corals, shells, sand and other seaweeds. Among these, 34 genera and 47 species were found in present study and 43 genera and 62 species were found in the past. The greates abundance occurred during April to Septenber 1991. The most commom genera were Enteromorpha, Neomeris, Padina, Sargassum, Hypnea and Acanthophora while others occasionally occurred. However, it can not be concluded whether species composition and abundance of the algal flora in Ao Phe, Rayong Province have changed.
