Sandy soils in E-sarn which are low in buffering capacity are easy to form surface crust. Two soil series (Yasothon and Warin) and two kinds of synthetic polymer (IGETA GEL and ACRYHOPE) were tested in pot experiment to the improvement of physical properties of these soils. Polymers mixed with soil (0.1 % and 0.3 % by weight) were effective to improve the water holding capacity and aeration of the soil. The dry weight of soybean and maize grown in two seasons were also increased. However, 0.3 % of IGETA GEL was more effective than the others and suppressed the formation of surface crust.
