Various nodulated leguminous weeds commonly found in natural habitats of NE Thailand were assessed for their relative potential as green manures. Ya-Dhogkhao (Richardia brasilense), a fast-growing non-leguminous weed and Sesbania rostrata, a well-recognized green-manuring legume were included to provide sensible comparision. The nodulated leguminous weeds used in this preliminary pot experiment (8 kg soil/pot) were Sanoh-Khon (Aeschynomene americana) Hing-Heuy (Crotalaria straita), Jam-Juree (Samanes samans) and Myarab (Mimosa pudica). Organic matter from these plants were added at 0, 1.25, 2.50 and 5.00 ton/rai (dry weight) after which initial decomposition was allowed for ten days. Two seedlings of paddy rice were planted into these pots and the soil was maintained under waterlogged conditions throughout the experiment. Harvest was made 10 weeks after transplantation and the results obtained were discussed.
