Bagasse pulps potentialities for multi-ply linerboard manufacturing
1995
Mansito, O. | Aguero, C. (Pulp and Paper Research Inst., Havana (Cuba))
Laboratory scale studies are presented concerning bagasse chemical and chemimechanical pulps uses for multi-ply linerboard manufacturing. The effects of composition and grainnage of the plies on sheet properties and cost are analyzed. Three ply alternatives are compared with single ply ones, obtained from unbleached softwood kraft pulp and corrugated waste paper, from a technical and economical point of view. Higher thickness and Ring Crush Test (RCT) were obtained using bagasse chemimechanical pulp in the filler ply, while and improvement in Young's modulus and bursting strength were observed when bagasse chemical pulp was used instead. In both cases, better results were attained in comparison with one ply alternatives.
