Effects of shoot cutting on yield of peanut variety Tainan 9 and SK.38

Yield improvement was studied through the method of shoot cutting in peanut variety Tainan 9 and SK.38 during wet season 1989 to dry season 1990 at Takfa Field Crop Research Center, Nakorn Sawan Province. The experiment was design in Factorial in RCB. The treatments are combinations of time of shoot cutting at 70, 75 and 85 days after emeragence and height of cutting at 30 and 40 cm from the ground level. The treatments of growth retardant, Alar 85 sprayed at 50 DAE and control (no shoot cutting and Alar 85 sprayed) were included for comparison. Results indicated that shoot cutting were effected yield improvement more in dry season than in wet season. Peanut variety SK.38 responsed to shoot cutting as yield increment more than Tainan 8. Heigher degree of indeterminate growth type in SK.38 might be the causes. However, from this experiment, shoot cutting during 75 to 80 DAE at 90 cm. above the ground tended to give higher yield over control in both varieties.
