Causal organism of soybean anthracnose is Colletotrichum dematium var. truncata (Schw.) Arx. Symtoms appear most often on leaves, petioles, stems, pods and seeds. The disease reduces seed quality, germination and yield. C. dematium var. turncata is characterized by crowded, black, acervuli borne on well-developed stromata. The acervuli are oval, or hemispheric and erumpent with numerons needle like, intermixed long and short setae 262-525 * 2-3 micron. The conidia, borne singly on conidiophores are bluntly tapered, curved, unicellular, hyline and measure 20-25 * 2.5-3.75 micron. It grows better on potatodextrose agar than the other six media. The optimum temperature range is 20-30 deg C. In corn grain gives higher spore amount than the other three kinds.
