Comparative study of operative characteristics of Venturi pump to suction pump type fertigation equipment
1998
Pathom Sangsai
This is a comparative study of the operative characteristics of the Venturi Pump to Suction Pump type fertigation equipment. This fertigation equipment was assigned fertigation discharge capacity at 80 litres per hour. The average fertigation discharge rate of imported Venturi Pump was 75.89 litres per hour which was 5.14 percent difference from the assigned discharge capacity. The average fertigation discharge rate of the Thai made Venturi Pump was 90.36 litres per hour and was 12.95 percent in differnce from the assigned discharge capacity. When the Venturi Pumps were operating the pressure in the fertigation system dropped 26.67 percent. Since the fertigation discharge of the Suction Pump depends on hose diameter, hose length and pressure had, relationships between those factors were then calculated. It was found that the 4 mm diameter hose with 1.366 m length and 2 m of pressure head discharge at rate 80 litres per hour. The fertigation discharge rate of the Suction Pump was 72 litres per hours which was 10 percent in difference from the assigned rate. In comparision between the fertigation equipment, the imported Venturi Pump was more efficient than Thai made Venturi Pump and Suction Pump. It had good uniformity in fertigation discharge as well as the Suction Pump which is better than the Thai made Venturi Pump. However, the efficiency and uniformity of fertigation discharge of the fertigation equipment depending on the standard quality of apparatus used for measuring fertigation discharge capacity and efficiency of the Pump. Furthermore, the apparatus used for Suction Pump type is cheaper and head loss in fertigation system is lower than the Venturi Pumps also.
