Coastal environment surveys were carried out during high and low tide at Ban Pakrawa, Songkhla where a Pakrawa sea outfall for shrimp culture is to be constructed. The surveys consisted of 3 transacts with 15 stations within the ranges of 100, 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 m from the shore. The velocity and direction of the water current at the surface and bottom were determined at each station. The current velocity were also measured for 13 hr around a tidal cycle at mid-water. Water and soil were collected to analyse the degree of organic matters contamination on coastal water. The results showed that water current to the north was stronger than that to the south during the north east monsoon. Western wind played important role in the seaward movement of coastal water by distributing and diluting the pollutants while eastern wind brought off-shore clean water to the coast. The water quality surveys revealed that the opening of the Pakrawa water-gate caused negative impacts on coastal water because the low pH, high total organic carbon and high total ammonia in water were found within the distance of 100 m form the shore.
