Twenty-six local durians (Durio zibethinus Murr.) were collected in Southern Thailand. These durians were screened for resistance against Phytophthora palmivora infection using root dipping technique. Isozyme (peroxidase) activity was also analysed in some selected durians to evaluate its potential as a marker for selecting resistant durian. Data from pathogenicity testing can be used to categorize durians into 4 groups in which 4 durinans [Aikeu (AK), Jampa (JP), Kangyaew (KY) and Sukirin 1.4 (SU 1.4)] may be highly resistant based on the overall percent dead seedlings assessed at the end of the experiment. Data from isozyme (peroxidase) analysis did not always correlate with data from pathogenicity testing. This may indicate that peroxidase activity may not be reliably used as a predictor to select resistant durians.
