Efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers applied to lowland rice in Thailand

Recent research programs in Thailand have addressed the problem of improving the efficiency of use of nitrogen fertilizers in lowland rice. Filed investigations with 15N labeled N fertilizer indicated that applied N was very inefficiently used by the rice crop largely because of serious N losses. Some possibilities of improvement in fertilizer N efficiency by fertilizer management practices are summarized.
