Transformations and balance of nitrogen were determined in Kamphaengsean soil (Hydromorphic, non-calcic brown soil) installed in the middle of the experimental plots. The results indicated that under this soil condition nitrification proceeded very quickly. Under humid conditions and heavy rainfall large amount of nitrogen were lost by leaching process. However, 50 percent of applied nitrogen was retained at 60 days after application of ammonium sulfate which indicated high efficiency of fertilizer application. Leaching loss was higher when sesbania and sunnhemp were incorporated. Details experiment using 15N tracer technique should be carried out in the future including the efficiency of various method of fertilizer application.
