Mode of inheritance of seedcoat colour was studied in a half diallel set of four mungbean genotypes viz. NM 92, Pagasa-3, Blackmung and D-89 having a seedcoat colour of green, lemon yellow, black and pale red respectively. In F1 black seedcoat colour was found dominant over green, lemon yellow and pale red; green over lemon yellow and pale red; and lemon yellow over pale red. No maternal effect was observed in the inheritance of this trait. The F2 segregation ratios (3:1) in all the crosses revealed the involvement of a single gene in the inheritance of seedcoat colour and showed similar pattern of dominance as observed in their F1 generation.
