Study on growth of Acacia mangium and yield of grasses grown as a mix pasture with this legume was conducted from July 1996 to June 1998 at Maejo University. Factorial experiment in Completley Randomized Design was assigned to the experimental materials by using 16 planting plots of 12*12 m each. Acacia mangium seedlings were grown at the spacings of 3*3 m or 4*4 m and intercropped with either ruzi (Brachiaria ruziziensis) or guinea grass (Panicum maximum). Both grasses were able to be harvested 8 times (cut at 15 cm above ground level during the fist two years of the experiment which were 3 times in the first year and 5 times in the following year. Yield of Ruzi grass (ton/rai) was substantialiy lower than guinea grass. DM yield of ruzi grown with Acacia mangium in the spacing of 3*3 m and 4*4 m were 2.46 and 2.97 ton/rai whereas guinea grass gave DM yield up to 3.11 and 3.76 ton/rai, respectively. Ruzi grass contained higher protein but lower in dry matter and crude fiber content than those found in guinea grass. Acacia mangium at both spacing and those grown with ruzi and guinea grass. Acacia mangium at both spacing and those grown with ruzi and guinea grass showed similar growth rate and were able to reach their maximum height after two years at 175.6, 164.3, 168.8 and 172.4 cm, respectively.
