Effect of date of planting and varieties on the performance of potato

Experiment was conducted at Joydebpur, Gazipur during 1980-1981 with five dates of planting and five recommended varieties of potato. On the average, highest yield was produced by the planting date on 10 November followed by 20 November and 10 December. Taking all the varieties together into account, K. Sindhuri was found to produce the highest yield followed by Cardinal, Mirka and Multa. Losses of tubers under natural storage was found to be minimum in the case of planting date on 10 November and 1 December respectively. Among the varieties, Patrones was found to possess minimum tuber losses followed by Mirka and Cardinal. Whereas, tuber losses of the varieties Multa and K. Sindhuri were found to be from 56-62 percent under natural storage condition.
