Prototype of the chopper for immature durians, developed in this research, consisted of two main components. They were a structural framework and chopping mechanism. The mechanism included a blade, a pulling link, a cylinder, a reel and a dead weight. Tests showed that the chopper capacity was 500 kg/hr with one operator. Damage to the flesh of chopped durians, by which some of the flesh was removed by neighboring husk, was found to be less than 2 percent. The maximum chopping force was measured to be 65 kgf. Additionally the chopper could be implemented for effective dehusking of mature durians for home consumption.
