Bioassays results was found that the crude methanol extract from the roots of Aglaia odorata Lour. indicated a fish poison. Four compounds were isolated as mixture of steroids, mixture of steroid glycoside, mixture of long chain alcohol (C24-C28) and white crystals (m.p. 256-257 deg C). The major component was found to be essential oil. The structure of these compounds were firmly established on the basis of physical, chemical properties and spectral data.
