Development of sawdust extracting machine for recycle use of sawdust packed in plastic bag in mushroom nursery

Sawdust extracting machine, for separting sawdust from plastic pack was developed. Three models were built which were of the same operational principle and structural frame work but each model had different separating mechanism. Each model was tested and the data were analyzed. The first model, with spikes on one cylinder, yielded a working capacity of 4,550 kg/hr, the percentage of pieces of plastic tangling with the teeth 53.67 percent and the percentage of pieces of plastic left with sawdust 2.29 percent. The model weighted 150 kg., required 2 operators and consumed electricity 1,100 watts-hour. The second model, which had spikes on two cylinders, gave a working capacity of 3,688 kg/hr the percentage of pieces of plastic tangling with the teeth 87.62 percent and the percentage of pieces of plastic left with sawdust 1.77 percent. The model weighted 250 kg., required 2 operators and consumed electricity 1,100 watts-hours. The third model, the separating mechanism had steel bars one two cylinders, It had a working capacity of 9,540 kg/hr, the percentage of pieces of plastic tangling with the teeth 0 percent and the percentage of pieces of plastic left with sawdust 0.04 percent. The model weighed 250 kg., required 2 operators and consumed electricity 1,214 watts-hours. Following the promotion of the machine to farmers, the third model was found to be most suitable one. This was because it could separate sawdust from plastic of the packs most efficiently. In addition the machine was not too complicated to build by the local technicians.
