Some suitable agricultural models for Chom Bueng District, Rajburi Province by using the application of geographic information system

Study of some suitable agricultural crop models for Chom Bueng District, Rajburi Province by using the application of geographic information system is conducted. The purpose of this study is to present alternative and suitable fruit crop models for the farmers in cassava production areas. The study is divided into two main parts. In the first study, a multi criteria evaluation using physical, biological, economical, and social factors is considered for the selection of suitable fruit crops. Farmers opinion, socio-economic, physical, and crop requirement factors are also criticized. In the second study, ARC/INFO version 6.0 is used to overlay the suitable area for the appropriate crops as area approach system. The results of the first study show that there are 12 most suitable crops which are pommelo, mango, longan, lychee, guava, banana, coconut, jack fruit, tamarind, manila tamarind, santol, and sugar apple. In the second study, it is found that the total area of Chom Bueng District is 510,160.30 rai. The soil series consist of 32 soil types of classification covering the whole area. Most of the land area are flat and consist of sandy loam, have good drainage, low fertility, and medium pH (5.5-7.0), soil depth between 25-75 centimeters, and ground water level of 120 centimeters. Furthermore, most of the agricultural land area could be divided into two categories. The first category is the moderate suitable area for pommelo, manila tamarind, santol, mango, guava, banana, tamarind, jack fruit, coconut, and sugar apple. The second category is slightly suitable area for lychee and longan. The cassava production area is 22,032 rai located mostly in Chom Bueng Subdistrict. The cassava production area has the same crop suitability as that of the whole agricultural land area which is moderately suitable for pommelo, manila tamarind, santol, mango, guava, banana, tamarind, jack fruit, coconut, and sugar apple and slightly suitable areas are for lychee and longan.
