Chitralada 2 strain of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Linn) were cultured in 5 cubic m concrete tanks at 3 levels of salinity: 5, 10 and 20 ppt, in order to determine whether the salinity affects to growth and survival rate. The fish with an average initial weight of 13.10+-0.62 g and 9.04+-0.10 cm in total length were started with a stocking density of 10 fish/square m and cultured for 4 months. In the first 2 months of culturing period, the fish were fed with 30 percent protein pellet. After that the pellet were changed to 25 percent protein. At the end of experiment, the average weight (239.93+-16.98, 253.27+-6.05, and 242.47+-36.94 g), avereage length (23.27+-0.49, 23.70+-0.13, and 23.37+-1.05 cm) survival rate (92.676+-3.06, 88.5.29, and 92.67+-8.08 percent), food conversion ratio (1.16+-0.09, 1.17+-0.10, and 1.19+-0.27) and production (11.11+-0.91, 11.15+-0.91, and 11.27+-2.34 kg/tank) showed no significant difference (p GT 0.05). The experiment suggested that the Chitralada 2 strain of Nile Tilapia can grow in saline water at 5, 10 and 20 ppt.
