Krung Sitadhani | Kasem Pileuk(Kasetsart Univ., Bangkok (Thailand). Faculty of Agriculture. Dept. of Horticulture)
Intervarietal crossing of Chinese cabbage between 77m(3)-26 the heat-tolerant cultivar and Aeroplane 1, the commercial cultivar, began on November 20, 1985 at the experimental field of the Tropical Vegetable Research Center, Kamphaengsaen, Nakhon Pathom. Seedlings of 20-day vernalization were transplanted into seed boxes before growing on January 6, 1986 at the experimental field. Due to late sowing date the pollination period appeared during high temperature of late cool season with serious damage from diamondback moth, these phenomena led to high flower drop and harvesting of immature seed pods. Low seed set of 10-40 seeds/plant were obtained from 7 female plants of 77m(3)-26. Higher seedset of 50-200 seeds/plant were harvested from 19 female plants of Aeroplane 1 as the reciprocal cross. An evaluation of crosses will follow.
