Study of optimum rows and different plant spacings of vetiver grass for soil erosion control on sloping land
1996
Sompong Suntanakanit | Pitsamai Chowanakit(Land Development Department, Bangkok (Thailand))
Study of optimum rows and different plant spacings of vetiver grass for soil erosion control was conducted in Ranong province on 5 percent slope. There were 7 treatments the first three treatments were planting vetiver grass in single row with the hill spacings of 10, 15 and 20 cm, the distance between row was 15 m the second three treatments were planting vetiver grass in double rows with the distance of 30 cm and the hill spacings of 10, 15 and 20 cm respectively, the distance between double rows was 15 m, the last treatment was farmers practice (without vetiver grass). The results from the study showed that vetiver grass in single or double rows with the hill spacing of 10 cm can reduce soil loss from 80-94 percent compared with the farmers practice.
