Objective of this field experiment in East Java was to study the effects of the plant growth regulators (GA3, NAA and CPPU) on fruit retension, yield and quality of mango (cv. Arumanis). The respective growth regulators were sprayed on the whole trees 14 days after bloom as follow : 1. control, 2. GA3 30 ppm, 3. NAA 40 ppm. 4. CPPU 10 ppm, 5. GA3 30 ppm+NAA 40 ppm, 6. CPPU 10 ppm+GA3 30 ppm. 7. CPPU 10 ppm+NAA 40 ppm. Only CPPU significantly increased fruit retention by 35.70 percent above the control and fruit weight per tree by 123.08 percent. Average fruit weight was increased by 39.01 percent with CPPU, 31.82 percent with CPPU+NAA, 19.46 percent with GA3+NAA and 13.62 percent with NAA. CPPU alone increased fruit number by 144.23 percent whereas the combination of CPPU plus GA3 resulted in an increase of 121.54 percent over control. The growth regulators tested did not show any negative effect on fruit quality. It may be concluded that CPPU, a synthetic cytokinin, formulated as Sitofex strongly improves fruit retention, fruit weight and yield of mango under the conditions of East Java.
