Survival and yield of the Macrobrachium rosenbergii larvae and bacteria count were compared under two nursing conditions, i.e., with and without oxytetracyclin. Five ppm of oxytetracyclin was added every other day in one treatment during the nursing period. At the end of nursing, the larvae were subjected to three stress tests including freshwater, 25 ppm formalin and 62.5 ppm calcium oxide. The experiment was conducted in 3 tons circular concrete tanks at Suphanburi Inland Fisheries Station during March-May 1998. The results showed that survival rates of the treated and untreated group were 58.7 +- 14.8 and 60.8 +- 7.6 percent, respectively, which were not significantly different (p GT 0.05). There were also no significant difference (p GT 0.05) results from the three stress tests. The total bacteria count in water and in the larvae obtained from both conductions were not significantly different (p GT 0.05). It is, therefore, suggested that adding 5 ppm of oxytertracyclin in nursing pond every other day does not have any effects on the survival rate and strength of the Macrobrachium larvae and on the amount of total bacteria counts.
