Diseases of some medicinal and native edible plants in Faculty of Agriculture at Bangphra

Investigation of plant diseases in medicinal and native edible plants were carried out at the Faculty of Agriculture at Bangphra during July 1999 to April 2000. More than 100 species of such plants were cultivatied in approximately two-rai area. Six diseases previously found in economic crops, were found in thirteen plants. Stem and root rot was found in purging croton (Croton tiglium Linn.), burma conehead (Volkameria fragrans Vent.) and roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn.). Leaf spot symptom occurred in tongpanchang (Rhinacanthus nasutus Linn. Kurz), chaplu (Piper sarmentosum Roxb.) and mansoa (Dioscorea alata Linn.) Powdery mildew was found in yaapanngukaew (Ttachytarpheta indica Vahl.), sanvitalia (Sanvitalia procumbens), Bengal quinee (Aegle marmelos Corr.), mui (Micromelum minutum Seem.) and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.) Leave blight symptom occurred only in yaapagking (Murdannia loriformis (Hassk.) Rolla Rao et Kammathy). In roselle twig blight symptom was also found. The disease of anthracnose was found only in papaya (Carica papaya Linn.)
