Paper concerns the study of combustion characteristics in burning the moist husks is a vortex combustor. Three moisture levels of rice husk used in the present study were 9.2 percent, 12 percent and 15 percent by weight. Experiments were made by feeding the fuel of 0.3 kg/min throughout. The mass flow rate of supply air was adjusted to let equivalence ratio, phi, be 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 for each run. At each equivalence ratio, the ratio of volumetric flow rates of secondary air to total air (primary + secondary airs), lambda, was set to 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 to investigate the effect of lambda. The experiments show that high combustion efficiency is achieved for phi = 0.9-1.0 and lambda = 0.3. Maximum temperature of about 1,000 deg C at the annular chamber is found for the fuel moisture of 9.2 percent while lower temperature at the bottom chamber. In the case of 15 percent moisture content, lower temperature is seen throughout and combustion is found to be unstable and discontinued
