Breeding soybean for enhancement of nitrogen fixation potential
2001

Twenty hybrid soybean and 11 parent cultivars were evaluated for high nitrogen fixing avidity, good agronomic characteristic and yield potentials. The results showed that hybrid soybean cultivars of 9610, 9605, 9614 and 9618 produced high seed yield in the ranges of 300 to 304 kg/rai and gave 30 to 40 pods per plant. The different soybean cultivars had shown a significant difference in root nodule number, nitrogen percentage and total nitrogen in plant. We can introduce new soybean cultivars for Thai agricultural society, even if these hybrid soybean cultivars have still produced the good performances in yield and nitrogen fixation potentials.
