Granulomas in oscar (Astronotus ocellatus): A case report

2 years old female Oscar, body weight 200 grams and 15 centimeters in length showed lethargy, anorexia, skin ulceration on the right side of the head and both sides of the operculum approximately 2-5 millimeters in diameter, fin rot, bilateral corneal opacity with ulcer and left exophthalmos. The clinical signs had persisted for more than 3 weeks. It also had ectoparasites on the body and the gills including Hexamitta sp., Epistylis sp. and Dactylogyrus sp. It was treated by metronidazole, formalin and enrofloxacin at regular doses but it died 2 weeks after the end of the treatment despite recovery from the parasitic infestation. Postmortem examination revealed severe gill inflammation and necrosis, splenomegaly, numerous grayish-white nodules approximately 1 millimeter in diameter scattered in the spleen, kidney, liver and heart. Histopathological examination indicated that these tissues had granulomatous inflammation.
