Specimens of paper nautilus (Argonauta hians Lightfoot, 1786) were collected from fish market and bycatch of purse sein in Phuket Province. All specimens were mature females with shells or egg cases with developing eggs inside. The body of paper were cylindrical with bilateral symmetry and slightly bent upward posterior. It has 8 arms with biserial suckers. Stalks and fin of paper nautilus are absent. Its head is small but eyes are large and protrude. Only female built a shell. Average of shell length, shell height and shell width is 2.52+-0.29, 4.25+-0.52 and 1.94+-0.15 centimeter, respectively. Shell is calcareous , lateral compress, thin and fragile. It has 2 rows of tubercles in a number of 21.83+-3.64. The lateral side are radial ribs with the number of 23.63+-4.94 ribs. Arms are unequal and the biggest is arm 2, 3,1 and4, respectively. Radulas of paper nautilus are settled in the buccal cavity and consists of nine elements in each transverse row: 7 unicuspid teeth (rhachidian tooth, 1st, 2nd and 3rd lateral teeth), and 2 marginal plates on the row. Gill is a bipinnulate type having 13 lamellae in each demibranch. Some behavior of paper nautilus is different from other squid such as the controlling the body in the upside down style but the defensive behavior is the same as other squid species.
