Objectives of this study were to compare the production from three different methods of rearing Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei): white shrimp only at 100,000 postlarvae (PL)/rai, white shrimp 90,000 PL/rai and black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) 10,000 PL/rai, white shrimp 100,000 PL/rai and black tiger shrimp 10,000 PL/rai. Three ponds size 4 rais were used for each experimental group. The shrimp were fed with commercial pellet feed throughout the experimental period. In group 1, shrimp were harvested after 140 days with the average weight and yield was 25.69+-1.32 g and 1,650.4+-116.7 kg/rai. In group 2, shrimp were harvested after 140 days, the average weight and yield of white shrimp was 26.12+-1.03 g and 1,479.08+-152.16 kg/rai, while the average of black tiger shrimp and yield was 57.54+-8.59 g and 300.92+-9.17 kg/rai. In group 3, shrimp were partially harvested twice. The final harvest, the average weight of white shrimp was 26.30+-0.0 g and the black tiger shrimp was 40.56+-0.96 g. Average yield of white shrimp and black tiger shrimp was 1,984.08+-190.77 and 276.33+-31.63 kg/rai after 158 days cultured period. This study indicated that in order to produce large size white shrimp, the stocking density should not over 100,000 PL/rai and water quality should be maintained at optimal level.
