Turkey has 76 960 000 ha total land area, approximately 24 000 000 ha of this land is cultivable. Average rice growing area varies between 50 000 and 60 000 ha year to year due to shortage of irrigation water and instability of market price. Domestic production is not enough for consumption. Thus, Turkey imports some rice every year. Rice import increased depending on decrease in the local production in the last years. Rice consumption per capita is 4 or 5 kg and total milled rice consumption is about 300 000 tons
