Stoma density and stoma size of some cherry and apple cultivars grafted on different rootstocks
2004
Gulen, H. | Koksal, N. | Eris, A.
In this study, Sweetheart and Lapins cherry varieties grafted on Gisela-5 and Mazzard rootstock; and Red Chief, Jerseymac and Elite apple cultivars on MM 106 and seedling rootstocks were evaluated. The stomata were observed microscopically and it was determined that the leaves were hypostomatic. Results indicated that effect of rootstocks on the stoma density was significant in both species. In addition, rootstocks affected the stoma size in cherry cultivars whereas they did not affect stoma size in apple. Moreover, stoma density in the cherry varieties grafted on Gisela-5 was less than that grafted on Mazzard. In apple, scions grafted on MM 106 had more stomata in their leaves than that grafted on seedling rootstock
