English. This study compared heavy metal adsorption in three top soils with differing clay mineral compositions and compared this with metal uptake in the edible vegetable, cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), grown in a glasshouse experiment. The soils were dominated by smectite, illite, or kaolinite and Cu, Zn, Cd, Ni, and Pb adsorption was investigated at a range of applied heavy metals concentrations.
