Within the framework of national Honey Bee Breeding Program, this research carried out to obtain pure lines of Izmir honey bees by Aegean Agricultural Research Institute (AARI). This study has been initiated in 2010 in an isolated island (Eþek Island) rich in vegetation and free from honeybees and 11 km away from the cost of Karaburun. The superior honey bee colonies which were collected from Izmir province of Turkey used in this study. As research material, 245 queens bred from top 50 colonies were naturally mated with males of top 50 colonies. In colonies derived from mated queens, it was determined that mating of queens was sufficient and that queens and the colonies in general showed good performance.
