Effect of diferent LED sources on growth and pigment composition of Dunaliella salina Teodoresco (Chlorophyceae)
2017
Benas, K.
In this study, Dunaliella salina Teodoresco which was isolated from Ayvalık salt works (Balıkesir) were cultured at different LED light sources (blue, red and yellow) and nutrient regimes (Modified Johnson (MJ) medium, MJ without phosphate, MJ without nitrogen, MJ without both nitrogen and phosphate). The growth rates and biochemical composition of the groups were monitored. During the experiments, the maximum growth rate, cell number and dry weight of the cultures were determined as 4,30 day-1, 335,3 x 104 cell ml-1 and 1430 mg l-1 in red LED lights with using modified Johnson medium. The highest chlorophyll a and β-carotene content of the D. salina cells were measured in fluorescent lamps with using modified Johnson medium as 10,70 and 3,49 ml-1, respectively. In addition this parameters, DPPH radical scavenging activity and crude lipid content of the cultures were monitoring. The highest DPPH radical scavenging activity was found in blue LED as 74,12 %. The highest lipid content of the cultures was determined in red LED lights with using modified Johnson medium without the phosphate as 34,10 %. At the end of the study, it was determined that the LED lamps had effects on the growth and biochemical composition of Dunaliella salina
