Biomass and gamma-linolenic acid production by Spirulina platensis under different growth conditions
Cebeci, Ş.O.I.
In this thesis, the limitation of nitrogen (25%, 50%, 75% and 100% N concentration) and temperature fluctuations (25°C and 30°C) on Spirulina platensis biomass yield, protein, lipids, total phenolic and antioxidant capacity with fatty acid profile were investigated. The temperature increase has occurred in general decrease in the amount of biomass with an increase of dry weight. Besides the sample 25°C + 25% N Spirulina medium that gave the highest level of the lipid accumulation (A50 lipid; % 12,31 ± 1,72), for all growth trials, with rising the temperature to 30°C, protein, lipid, total phenolic and total carotenoid contents were also reached its highest value. The highest protein content was determined in samples C100: 80,0419%, C75: 78,8284% and C25: 77,8715%, with lipid in C75: 4,3393% and C25: 3,5714%; total phenolics in C25: 1,4717 ± 0,30 mg g-1 GAE and C75: 1,4536 ± 0,07 mg g-1 GAE; and total carotenoids in C75: 0,1194 ± 0,02 mg g-1 and D75: 0,0953 ± 3.35 mg g at 30°C.Consequently, the highest PUFA values were found in D75: 42,6098%, D100: 41,3657% and D50: %36,3536 at 30°C, whereas GLNA was in B100: 24,7354%, B75: 23,7851% and D75: 23,2055%. GLNA values were significantly high both during growth at both 25°C and 30°C.
