Determination of effects of some plant activators against potato virus Y in pepper
Şener, C.
The aim of the present study was to diagnose Potato Virus Y (PVY) with biological and serological methods and determine the effects of plant activators on symptom expression time, plant development (plant height, leaf surface area, root length) and plant reaction mechanisms such as lignin accumulation and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). It was found that the Messenger, Actigard, ISR-2000 and Crop-Set delayed symptom expression time by 12, 10, 8 and 3 days, respectively. Moreover, Actigard, Messenger and ISR-2000 increased leaf surface area and plant height. Among all applications, only Crop-Set applied for 72 h increased the root length. Histochemical staining showed lignin and H2O2 accumulation on activator treated plants. Best application times for inducing resistance on activator treated plants were determined as 72 h for Messenger, while they were 96 h for Actigard, Crop-Set and ISR-2000.
