Live weight after shearing and greasy fleece yield of karakaş ewes in different breeding conditions

In this study, average live weight after shearing, greasy fleece yield and clean fleece percentage of Karakaş ewes in different breeding conditions were examined. The animal material consisted of a total of 250 head of Karakaş ewes including 50 head ewes in different flocks that bred in the villages of Altınsaç, Değirmitaş, Göründü, Kazanç, Yuva in the town of Gevaş of Van province. Karakaş ewes were sheared using shearing scissors in July. Each of sheep fleece was weighed using electronic weighing scales with 100 g sensitivity. Greasy fleece yield and live weight after shearing of ewes were determined. Fleece samples were taken quantity sufficient for analysis and according to the sampling technique from area of the last rib on the right shoulder of 10 head of ewes in each flock. Then analysis of clean fleece percentage was performed in the laboratory at the Yüzüncü Yıl University, Agricultural Faculty, and Department of Animal Science. SAS package program was used for the statistical analysis of the data obtained.The effect of shearing age (p<0.05) and live weight on greasy fleece yield (p<0.01) was significant in Karakaş ewes in Kazanç and Göründü villages. While the effect of shearing age on greasy fleece yield was insignificant (p>0.05), the effect of live weight was significant (p<0.01) in the villages of Değirmitaş, Yuva and Altınsaç. When all the farms were generally evaluated, the effect of shearing age, farm and live weight after shearing from sources of variation examined the effect on greasy fleece yield was found significant (p<0.05, p<0.01). Least-squares means for greasy fleece yield of Karakaş ewes bred in the villages of Kazanç, Değirmitaş, Yuva, Altınsaç and Göründü were 1.48±0.04 kg, 1.81±0.07 kg, 2.10±0.04 kg, 2.14±0.04 kg and 2.11±0.03 kg, respectively. When all the farms were generally evaluated, least-squares mean for greasy fleece yield of Karakaş ewes was 1.93±0.02 kg. The effect of shearing age on live weight in the farms of Kazanç, Yuva, Altınsaç and Göründü villages was significant (p<0.05), while to be insignificant (p>0.05) in Değirmitaş village. Least-squares means for live weight after shearing were found as 55.82±0.66 kg in Kazanç, 53.73±0.68 kg in Değirmitaş, 54.57±0.57 kg in Yuva, 55.12±0.71 kg in Altınsaç, 55.59±0.67 kg in Göründü village, respectively. Average for all the farms was 54.97±0.30 kg. Least-squares means for clean fleece percentage were found as 65.07±3.17 % in Kazanç, 64.20±3.81 % in Değirmitaş, 65.51±4.91 % in Yuva, 70.30±4.10 % in Altınsaç, 65.51±4.91 % in Göründü, respectively. Average for clean fleece percentage was 65.52±1.70 % in all the farms.
