Effects of presowing treatments on germination and emergence of spinach seeds
2013
Orhan, Y.
In this study, spinach seeds from cv. Matador were primed using 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 M KNO3 and KH2PO4 aerated solutions at 10oC for three days in bubble-column. Standart germination test at 15oC, low tempretaure (5oC) and high temperature (25oC) stress germinations, emergence test in sand media and field emergence tests at two locations were conducted at both primed and control seeds.According to results of this research, primed seeds with different doze of both KNO3 and KH2PO4 salt increased standart germination, low and high stress germinations, emergence in sand and field emergence at two locations while decreased mean germination time and mean emergence time compare with control seeds. The highest germination percentage was determined from 0.1 M and 0.3 M KNO3 primed seeds as 96% and the lowest mean germination time was determined from 0.1 M KNO3 as 3.2 days. According to obtained data from research it can be stated 0.1 M doze of both potassium salts was the best appropriate priming solutions for spinach seeds.
