The research was carrried out in trial fields of Konya Land, Water and Combat Desertification Research Station in 2008-2011. The purple carrot population which is cultivated commonly in Konya region and mainly used for industrial purpose was used. Different types of purple carrots were collected in order to have a gene pool and they were subjected to selection according to the characters studied. The selection was carried out over two generations, the quality and the plant characteristics were studied. In the study, Eregli 4, Eregli 9, Eregli 10 and Eregli 16 have been determined as very promising. Eregli 4 and Eregli 16 lines have been identified as candidates of variety. As for average yield, Ereğli 1 was the highest (11.543.7 kg/da) whereas Eregli 14 was the lowest (9.272.0 kg/da).The lines characters was varied between 61.4-74.2 cm in plant height, 26.0-34.1 cm in leaf length, 10.5-12.3 in leaf number, 85.9-123.3 g in weight of the crown, 119.1-145.4 g in weight of root, 20.0-23.3 cm in root length, 38.0-45.6 mm in root diameter, 1.3-3.8 in number of lateral roots and 2.3-22.7 in bolting. In carrot samples, pH 6.36-6.69%, firmness 80.25-83.89 N/cm2, total soluble solids 5.93-6.72%, amount of dry matter 12.63-16.30%, titreable acidity 0.100-0.125 g/100 ml, total sugar content 7.13-9.67 g/100 g, amount of ß-carotene 117.17-249.55 mg/g, amount of anthocyanin 272.0-596.2 mg/g, amount of total phenolic 155.83-206.67 mg/g gallic acid equivalent/100 g and antioxidant activity ranged from 31.85-44.20%.
