Naturalized and recently intrduced adventive plants in Hungary

Over the last 211 years, 112 adventive plant species have become naturalized in the Hungarian flora, including 70 weeds or taxa likely to behave as weeds. Over the past nine years, several new adventive plants have been observed, while others have gone wild. Of these, six are Mediterranean, one sub-Mediterranean, one North American, one originates from the American tropics and one from India. Among the weed species tested (Abutilon theophrasti, Amaranthus chlorostachys, A. crispus, Consolida orientalis, Sorgum halepense, Veronica persica), a correlation could be observed between mild winters and the spreading in the field of A. crispus, C. orientalis and S. halepense. Despite the fact that they originated from the subtropics, the Mediterranean and Asia Minor, A. chlorostachy, A. theophrasti and V. persica were able to spread not only on areas where the mean winter temperature during the period in question was high, but also in the relatively coldest parts of the country.
