Breeding behaviour of vine habit of summer squash (Cucurbita pepo)
1996
Aldiab, M.A.G. | Kasrawi, M.A. (Jordan Univ., Amman (Jordan). Dept. of Plant Production)
The genetic behaviour of growth habit was studied in "P sub (1)", "P sub (2)", "F sub (1)", "F sub (2)", "BC sub (1)", and "BC sub (2)" generations of three crosses between viny and bushy cultivars of summer squash. One viny landrace (SQ-1) and three bushi cultivars (Gray Zucchini, Amcobella and Amcolamma) were used in this study. Growth habit was found to be controlled by a single gene with complete dominance for bush habit over viny habit of growth at the early stages of plant development and with incomplete dominance at the late growth stages. Node number had no effect on growth habit and the main effect was due to internode length.
