The fundamental problems of Turkish co-operatives and proposals for their solution

The co-operative system in Turkey, despite the high number of co-operatives, has never played an adequate economic and social role with respect to the objectives and the functions expected. Some of the reasons of such failure are: financial problems, low organisational and professional level and constraining legislation. An element of major importance is that, in some cases, the activity performed by co-operatives goes beyond the objectives and the principles peculiar to a co-operative.
