Twenty-nine imported foods available on the Prague retail market were analysed in order to determine if they had been irradiated or not. The foodstuffs included poultry meat (goose, turkey and duck from France, Hungary and China), rabbit meat (from France), cheeses (from France), exotic fruits (mango and avocado from Peru, Brazil and Spain). All samples were labelled as non-irradiated, in line with the Czech legislation. The analyses were performed by 2 methods as follows: determination of hydrocarbons generated by irradiation using GC (procedure according to EN 1784), determination of non-bonded o-tyrosine by HPLC with electrochemical detection. As shown by our results, there were no violations against Czech food legislation concerning labelling of irradiated foods.
